The Office of the Information Commissioner is the appeals body for Freedom of Information (FOI) in Ireland. Based in Dublin, our role is to review the decisions made by public bodies regarding FOI requests. Led by Information Commissioner Ger Deering, our team includes Senior Investigators Stephen Rafferty and Deirdre Gallagher.

We also receive support from the Office of the Ombudsman for services such as human resource management and information technology support. Ger Deering, appointed Ombudsman and Information Commissioner for Ireland in January 2022, brings his extensive experience in consumer and employment rights to the role. He has led various public bodies and played a key role in reforms for the financial services, pensions, and taxi regulation sectors.

Working alongside Ger Deering, Director General Elaine Cassidy has a rich background in both the multinational IT sector and the public service. Holding qualifications and certifications in law and mediation, Elaine brings her expertise to matters related to equal status and company legislation.
