Oklahoma Parents Center

The Oklahoma Parents Center (OPC) is a statewide resource dedicated to helping children and young people with disabilities and their families navigate special education and related services. Since 2000, it has supported Oklahoma parents, family members, young adults with disabilities, and the professionals who serve them. Its work covers individuals from birth through age 26, including support with early intervention, education, and transitions to adulthood.

OPC provides individualized assistance, training, and information and resources to help families understand their rights, responsibilities, and protections under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Its staff helps families work with schools and service providers and take an active role in planning and decision-making. Youth and young adults can receive one-on-one assistance and resources on self-advocacy, bullying prevention, post-high-school options, and transition planning.

The center also offers online trainings and videos, newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, and other materials, including a special education dictionary. OPC shares updates through monthly e-newsletters and invites families to complete surveys about their experiences with SoonerStart and public schools.
