About Oldenburger Wallmuseum
The Oldenburger Wallmuseum is a medieval experience museum in Oldenburg in Holstein, northern Germany, focused on the region’s early medieval past. It is located beside the Oldenburger Wall, a major archaeological monument and former center of Slavic power known as Starigard. Through archaeological finds and reconstructed early medieval settlements, the museum presents Oldenburg’s role around 1,000 years ago as a hub of trade, politics, and religion in Ostholstein.
Visitors can explore exhibitions on Slavic settlements and local guild history, join themed tours, and attend seasonal events and living-history activities. Its program also includes family holiday activities, craft workshops, and nature-focused offerings such as herb walks and workshops. Courses cover traditional skills including nalbinding, weaving, and making leather bags and wooden boxes. The museum provides visitor information and welcomes groups by arrangement, with opening hours varying by season. On the historic grounds, the Zweizack café-restaurant offers food and refreshments. The museum also supports educational work for children, young people, and adults, and accepts donations to help fund these activities.
