Old Pulteney

Old Pulteney Whisky is a renowned brand that specializes in hand-crafted single malt Scotch whiskies. Located at Pulteney Distillery in Wick, on the shores of north-eastern Scotland, we age our whiskies next to the sea, resulting in a unique coastal character that is unmistakable. Our brand's story is deeply connected to the maritime climate of our coastal home and the rich heritage and spirit of the community in Wick.

To produce our exceptional whiskies, we follow a meticulous distilling process. Starting with our pure and soft water sourced from Loch Hempriggs, we use a 100-year-old Porteus mill to process local un-peated malt barley into grist. Our semi-lauter mash tun efficiently mixes the grist with water, while our six stainless steel washbacks facilitate slow fermentation.

Distillation takes place in our two large copper stills, with the spirit passing through a worm tub condenser to enhance its flavor. For maturation, we utilize American oak and Spanish oak casks, stored in traditional dunnage and racked warehouses. The low temperatures, high humidity, and sea air surrounding our distillery shape the maturation process, creating the distinct coastal character of our whiskies.

With a history dating back to 1826, Old Pulteney has stood the test of time. Despite the decline of the herring fishing industry, our distillery remains steadfast, producing approximately 900,000 liters of single malt Scotch whisky annually under the guidance of our dedicated distillery team.
