About BathOldTheatreRoyal
The Old Theatre Royal is a historic Bath venue and visitor attraction, housed in a building with a distinctive 265-year history. It was the first Theatre Royal outside London, hosting Shakespearean productions and entertaining royalty before becoming a Catholic chapel in the early nineteenth century. Today, the building is home to one of England’s oldest Masonic Lodges, whose members continue to use the Masonic Hall.
Open to the public since 2009, the Old Theatre Royal offers guided tours that include its Masonic Museum in the vaults, described as one of the finest of its kind in the country. Tours run on selected days, and visitors can explore the building’s history through its former theatre, chapel and Masonic Hall.
The venue also hosts live music, theatre, comedy and festival events, and provides spaces for weddings, parties, formal dinners, corporate events and meetings. Options include the Masonic Hall, Regency Dining Room and smaller meeting rooms. The team offers access to a network of local suppliers to help support private functions.
