About Old York
Old York Historical Society preserves and shares the history of York, Maine, connecting visitors and local communities with the people, places, and events that shaped the area. The organization operates historic buildings and properties, presents exhibitions, and offers educational programs for schools, homeschool groups, docents, and the general public. Its activities include guided walking tours through historic York Village, with topics such as colonial life and the town’s role in the American Revolution.
Visitors can explore collections and access research resources through the Society’s library and archive, which provides finding aids, genealogy support, online resources, and collection searches. The Research Center at Beech Ridge is open year-round by appointment, while historic buildings welcome visitors during the season. The Society also hosts events throughout the year, including tours, community celebrations, and programs that interpret local history. Facility rental, internships, volunteering, and membership offer additional ways to engage. Supported by donations and member contributions, Old York Historical Society serves as a cultural and educational resource for understanding York’s heritage.
