Olivia’s Voice is a family-founded advocacy organization created to raise awareness and support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in public schools. Centered on the experience of Olivia Rose Walker, a student with severe bilateral hearing loss, the organization shares her family’s effort to keep her at Mamie P. Whitesides Elementary in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
Olivia received cochlear implants and has benefited from speech therapy, audiology care, and school-based support through her Individualized Education Program. Her family describes her progress in oral language, academics, and social relationships in a mainstream classroom, and argues that she should remain at her neighborhood school with appropriate services rather than be moved to a distant specialized program. Olivia’s Voice informs families and community members about the placement dispute with the Charleston County School District, disability rights, and inclusive education.
The website also shares updates and media coverage, including an ABC News 4 interview, and invites people to contact the family to learn more or offer support
