About Olympic Peninsula Fungi Festival
The Olympic Peninsula Fungi Fest is an annual educational festival celebrating mushrooms and the science, culture, and creativity surrounding them. Held on the Port Angeles waterfront, with activities at The HUB, the event welcomes everyone from curious beginners to experienced mycologists. Its program explores mushroom cultivation, foraging, fungal ecology and conservation, culinary uses, fabric dyeing, and medicinal mushrooms through talks, hands-on workshops, and opportunities to meet fellow fungi enthusiasts. Festival grounds are free to access, with tickets available for scheduled events and activities.
The festival also features vendors offering mushroom-related products and art, alongside a Friday keynote dinner with a multi-course mushroom-inspired menu prepared by local chefs. Speakers include mycologists, researchers, educators, photographers, and foragers who share expertise on fungal diversity and natural history. Community participation extends to the Elwha Fungal Diversity Project, a citizen-science initiative documenting native fungi and comparing restoration areas with less-disturbed habitats while providing hands-on learning.
