Ommerschans.org is a historical and genealogical website created by Helmuth Rijnhart in collaboration with the Vereniging Ommerschans. It explores the history of Ommerschans, a Dutch site associated with a beggar colony, through archival records, local history, and stories about the people who lived and died there. Visitors can search online registers and discover entries recording births and deaths, alongside articles that bring historical events and individual lives into focus.

The site covers Ommerschans from its prehistoric past and the founding of its fort through the establishment and later history of the colony. Its extensive collection of dated articles examines topics such as residents, work, discipline, migration, notable incidents, and family connections. Some features trace the ancestors of well-known Dutch figures, while others investigate specific people and episodes documented in historical sources. By combining searchable records with narrative accounts, Ommerschans.org offers researchers, descendants, and history enthusiasts several ways to explore the area’s past and the lives connected to it.
