OMMIK

The National Centre for Museology Methodology and Information (OMMIK) is a department of the Hungarian National Museum within its Innovation and Training Directorate. Operating since 2011, it supports the development of Hungary’s museum sector through research into national and international trends, analysis, professional events, and methodological guidance. The centre also coordinates and assists the digital transition of the Hungarian National Museum and the wider museum sector.

OMMIK provides practical resources and services for museums and cultural heritage professionals. Its collection-registration service supplies registers, inventory books, and acid-free paper compliant with ISO 9706. Digitalisation resources bring together news, guidance, and bibliographies on digitising collections and institutional transformation. The centre also shares information and materials on making museums more inclusive.

Its digital platforms include MuseuMap, which gathers and makes digitised museum collections accessible; MuseuMap Gallery, featuring object stories, virtual exhibitions, and three-dimensional reconstructions; and MuzeumStat, a searchable source of public statistics on Hungarian museums and related institutions. OMMIK also organises MuseumDigit, a conference focused on technology, museums, and cultural heritage.
