Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council

The Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC) is Ontario’s regulator for registered motor vehicle dealers and salespeople. Its work focuses on protecting vehicle buyers and strengthening professionalism across the motor vehicle sales industry. OMVIC provides resources to help consumers understand their rights, dealer disclosure requirements, vehicle pricing, financing, leasing, warranties, recalls, and other considerations before buying. Buyers can search for registered dealers and salespeople, learn about complaint procedures, and find information on consumer protections and the Compensation Fund.

For dealers and salespeople, OMVIC explains registration requirements, renewal obligations, continuing education, sales practices, and compliance with applicable laws and standards. It offers guidance, dealer resources, and educational webinars, including information about its automotive certification and continuing education programs. OMVIC also carries out enforcement activities, publishes enforcement advisories, and provides information about investigations, discipline, and appeals. Through consumer education, industry guidance, registration services, and regulatory oversight, OMVIC helps Ontarians make informed vehicle-buying decisions and supports accountability among those selling motor vehicles in the province.
