One Story

One Story is an award-winning 501(c)(3) literary arts nonprofit and publisher dedicated to bringing people together through reading, writing, and learning about short fiction. Since 2002, it has introduced readers to original stories by emerging and established writers, publishing each author only once. Its One Story subscription delivers a short story by mail every month, while One Teen Story shares fiction for young readers and features work connected to its teen writing contest.

Beyond publishing, One Story offers writing classes, workshops, lectures, a writers’ conference, and resources such as its Writer’s Field Guide. Its programs also include the Adina Talve-Goodman Fellowship and an apprenticeship, providing opportunities for writers to develop their craft. Readers and writers can explore back issues, join the mailing list or Patron Circle, and attend literary events. One Story accepts submissions during announced reading periods and supports writers through educational and community programs. The organization also offers publishers a free, open-source submission management system. Donations and subscriptions help keep its print stories accessible to readers.
