About One Health Certified
One Health Certified™ is a public certification program that aims to ensure the highest standards of animal care within the food industry. It is open to all producers who align their animal care practices with the guidelines set forth in the program. Created by a coalition of experts from chicken and turkey companies, non-profit organizations, and university scientists, One Health Certified offers a sensible and affordable solution to promote the well-being of food animals while reducing consumer confusion with clear labeling.
Using a One Health approach, which emphasizes the collaborative effort of different disciplines, this certification program addresses various aspects of protein production. It establishes species-specific guidelines for each animal protein under one universal program. Currently, the program offers certification for chicken and turkey, and standards for other animal proteins are in progress.
Producers seeking certification undergo a thorough process that involves aligning their practices with program guidelines, paying the fee, and successfully passing a third-party audit conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service (USDA-AMS) Process Verified Program auditing service. This ensures compliance with the program's guidelines on an annual basis.
The standards and oversight of the One Health Certified program are governed by the Standards Oversight Committee, which consists of technical experts representing various stakeholders in the industry. By obtaining the One Health Certified seal, producers demonstrate their commitment to the health and well-being of animals, consumers, and the environment.
