The Oneida Nation is a sovereign Tribal nation whose people originated in upstate New York and later established a home in Wisconsin. Following the Revolutionary War, the Oneida lost nearly five million acres of their original homelands. A treaty in 1838 established the 65,400-acre Oneida Indian Reservation along Duck Creek, where the community has lived for nearly 200 years.
Today, the Nation serves approximately 17,000 citizens worldwide and is guided by its Constitution, adopted in 1936, alongside its laws and regulations. Its government includes the General Tribal Council, Oneida Business Committee, Judiciary, and various boards and commissions, while traditional governance remains part of Oneida ways. The Nation provides a broad range of resources and services for citizens and the wider community, including health and behavioral health, housing, education, employment, family support, food and agriculture, cultural programs, language learning, recreation, and public transit.
It also operates revenue-generating enterprises and works with vendors and external businesses
