Ontario Opticians

The Ontario Opticians Association (OOA) is a professional organization serving opticians in Ontario and supporting the optical profession. It provides members with access to professional liability insurance, continuing education, and opportunities to connect with colleagues and industry partners. The association’s education offerings have included online courses through the Ontario Opticians Academy, webinars, and live events, with flexible options for completing continuing education credits.

The OOA notes that opticians are licensed healthcare professionals who help people achieve better vision by interpreting prescriptions and fitting eyeglasses, contact lenses, low-vision aids, and ocular prosthetic devices. Membership has included unlimited online continuing education access, early-bird pricing, and $1 million in professional liability insurance.

The association has announced significant financial, governance, and operational challenges and is suspending regular programs and member services while it determines next steps. It cannot currently confirm whether normal operations will resume. The OOA states that members’ professional liability insurance remains fully in effect and requires no action. It is exploring ways for other organizations to support optician continuing education.
