Ontario’s Conservation Areas is a public-facing initiative of Conservation Ontario, promoting more than 300 places to explore across the province. The site highlights the work of Ontario’s 36 Conservation Authorities, which own and protect 150,000 hectares of forests, wetlands, natural and scientific interest areas, recreational lands, natural and cultural heritage sites, and land used for flood and erosion control.
Visitors can use the Conservation Areas map to find locations by activity, facilities, accessibility, and other trip-planning needs. The website also offers a visitor guide with maps, natural and cultural features, attractions, and tips, plus the Step Into Nature app for exploring conservation areas and their trails. Together, these resources cover more than 3,500 kilometres of trails.
The initiative encourages outdoor recreation through activities such as hiking, biking, paddling, camping, and seasonal events. Its annual Healthy Hikes campaign promotes the physical and mental health benefits of spending time in nature. Visitors can also discover featured areas, read articles, check event information, and share photos of their outdoor experiences.
