About Open Data
UK Open Data Index is a search and discovery service for open government data published across the United Kingdom. It brings together information from national, devolved, regional, NHS and local government sources, helping people find datasets through a single search rather than visiting multiple portals. Users can search using plain English or browse by publisher and subject.
The service also offers views of information published by many councils, making it possible to compare the same dataset across authorities, as well as combined tables covering items that multiple public bodies publish. Each search result links to the original publisher’s page, and the index checks links before users visit them so they can see whether data is available behind a result. The site provides information about its source list and an API, alongside findings and guidance about the index.
