The OPEN Foundation is a Dutch nonprofit advancing psychedelic research and therapy for the benefit of science, healthcare, and society. Founded in 2007, it promotes rigorous, interdisciplinary research and supports the safe, ethical, and responsible integration of beneficial psychedelic therapies into mainstream care and society. The foundation connects researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and other professionals through international conferences, networking opportunities, and educational events. Its flagship event, the Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelic Research (ICPR), brings together experts to share developments in psychedelic science and therapy.
Through OPEN Academy, the foundation provides therapist education, including ADEPT, a two-year hybrid programme, and Foundations, a 13-month online programme. Other offerings include short courses, workshops, masterclasses, supervision groups, and online community events. OPEN also shares research, articles, talks, and curated news, while collaborating on research initiatives such as PsyPal, focused on psilocybin therapy for psychological distress in palliative care. By building professional communities and engaging with policymakers, the OPEN Foundation works to help ensure that advances in psychedelic research contribute responsibly to mental healthcare.
