About OpenMetadata
OpenMetadata is an open-source platform that helps organizations give people and AI agents a shared, reliable understanding of their data. Described as an open context layer, it brings technical metadata, business semantics, and organizational memory together in a knowledge graph. The platform supports data cataloging and discovery, lineage, quality, observability, governance, and collaboration, helping teams understand what data assets mean, how they connect, and whether they can be trusted.
Its knowledge graph organizes information about tables, columns, dashboards, pipelines, machine-learning models, ownership, and classifications, alongside glossary terms, metric definitions, policies, decisions, and feedback. OpenMetadata offers a schema-first, API-first architecture, a native Model Context Protocol server, and an AI SDK for connecting agents with data context. Its ingestion framework includes more than 130 connectors for databases, cloud storage, analytics tools, and other data services.
Organizations can deploy OpenMetadata in their own environments, explore a live sandbox, or use its free cloud service.
