Open Archives is a genealogy search service that helps users explore records from open archives and historical societies. Its platform brings together more than 371 million individual entries, enabling searches for people, documents, and publications, including by name, title, author, place, source type, role, or year. Users can search across the collection or narrow results to specific archives and collections, with filters and advanced search tools for more targeted research.

Search options include exact names, combinations of related people, date ranges, wildcards, phonetic matches, and occupations. Open Archives also links records with additional documents and information about people and their historical context, supporting deeper family-history research. The site provides guides to its archives, source types, places, common surnames, and occupations, along with a newsletter, developer information, and subscription details.

It is part of a wider set of genealogy resources associated with Coret Genealogy, including Genealogy Online, where users can create and publish family trees, and Family Archivist, a service for building a digital family archive
