About Openpolis
Open Bilanci is an open-data project by Fondazione Openpolis that makes official financial information for Italian municipalities easier to find, explore and reuse. The platform provides harmonized municipal budgets covering 2005 to 2022, with data published in formats designed for computer processing and available for free download. It is intended for citizens, journalists and researchers who want to understand local public finances and share what they discover.
Visitors can search for a municipality, explore its budget, compare figures across municipalities and create rankings. The site also offers indicators, a wiki and a glossary to help users interpret the information. Open Bilanci describes its data and software as open, and provides access to source code on GitHub, alongside information about software, licences, privacy and contact details.
The project was developed with co-financing from the European Union. Its notice states that forecast budgets are available through 2022 and final accounts through 2021; the portal has not been updated with more recent years because of project sustainability and other work undertaken by Fondazione Openpolis.
