Its activities include efforts to protect the crypto community from patent litigation and patent trolls. In 2024, COPA announced a partnership with Unified Patents to challenge patents held by non-practicing entities that could affect the open-source ecosystem. The alliance has also pursued legal action concerning claims about the authorship of the Bitcoin white paper. Its updates cover the COPA v Craig Wright trial and related court decisions, as well as developments in patent protection. Through advocacy, partnerships, and legal initiatives, COPA focuses on reducing barriers that may hinder the development and use of cryptocurrency technologies.
