About OpenGolfAPI
OpenGolfAPI is an open platform for golf that brings course data, scoring, and golfer identity together through REST APIs and MCP tools. Its free, community-maintained database covers more than 16,800 US courses, with course details, scorecards, tee sets, ratings, slopes, yardages, and other information available to browse or access programmatically. Golfers can search courses, compare tees, plan rounds, and contribute updates.
The platform supports 16 game formats, including stroke play, skins, scramble, Stableford, match play, and Nassau, with scoring available without an API key. Developers can use OpenGolf ID for portable sign-in and golfer records, while OpenShot and Moments provide open standards for sending shot data and other activity from launch monitors, wearables, phones, and sensors. OpenJoin helps groups enter a shared round or tournament.
OpenGolfAPI also offers 56 MCP tools for AI assistants and publishes open standards under CC0, alongside course data under ODbL. Its stated approach emphasizes free access, user-controlled consent, and the ability to export or delete personal records.
