OPENLEGALDATA.IO is a free and open platform dedicated to providing free access to legal documents and information for the public. Our mission is to enhance the transparency of the jurisdiction by making legal information easily accessible and understandable, especially for those without a legal background. We are committed to the principles of Open Data and the Free Access to Law Movement.

In many countries, legal documents are publicly accessible but are either not published online or hidden behind paywalls. In Germany, while case law is in the public domain, the legal decisions that interpret and apply statutory law are scattered and only available for significant fees. This lack of accessibility often leads to distorted information and reduces confidence in the legal system.

OPENLEGALDATA.IO aims to improve communication within the legal system by providing a user-friendly and barrier-free way to access legal information. We collect laws and jurisdictional decisions and publish them as open data, free of charge. Our platform, available on GitHub under the MIT license, serves as a hub for transparent jurisdiction in the open science movement.
