About Open Map Lebanon
Open Map Lebanon is a community-driven brand that is dedicated to supporting the relief effort in Beirut. Comprised of volunteer technologists, mappers, academics, and data scientists, Open Map Lebanon believes in the power of open and safe data sharing. The brand was founded after the devastating blast in August 2020 by Melda Salhab, Marc Farra, Sherif Maktabi, Michelle Melki, and Joanne Harik.
Their mission is to increase the availability and accessibility of data in Lebanon for the greater good. Open Map Lebanon focuses on various areas such as operations and community, data science, COVID-19 research, blast modeling, Beirut recovery mapping, drone and 3D mapping, street-level mapping, legal matters, and brand communications. They work in collaboration with teams like Kickstartaid, a platform that connects NGOs with volunteers and donors, and Augment, a startup that uses cutting-edge technology to create 3D models.
