About OpenNet Initiative
OpenNet Initiative (ONI) is a collaborative partnership between three world-renowned institutions: the Citizen Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto; the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University; and the SecDev Group (Ottawa). Their mission is to thoroughly investigate, expose, and analyze internet filtering and surveillance practices in a credible and non-partisan manner. By doing so, ONI aims to shed light on the potential risks and unintended consequences of these practices, which will then inform better public policy and advocacy work in this field.
ONI adopts a unique multi-disciplinary approach that includes developing and deploying technical tools and methodologies for the study of internet filtering and surveillance. They also focus on capacity-building among networks of local advocates and researchers. Furthermore, ONI conducts advanced studies to explore the implications of current and future trends in filtering and surveillance practices, considering both domestic and international law and governance regimes.
Connect with ONI through their insightful blog, ONI Newsreel, and social media accounts. They also provide assistance for reporting censorship and offer an email subscription service to keep you updated on their latest news and reports
