About OpenNIC
OpenNIC is a non-profit organization formed by a community of hobbyists dedicated to providing an alternative Domain Name System (DNS) network. Focused on ensuring DNS neutrality, OpenNIC allows users to bypass potential ISP censorship while giving them control over their internet experience. The organization offers free access to various top-level domains (TLDs) that are not managed by ICANN, including unique names like .cyb, .libre, and .pirate.
Operated entirely by volunteers, OpenNIC stands against DNS hijacking by providing servers that respect user privacy. This commitment to a democratic and open internet is reflected in their partnerships with other alternative DNS roots, allowing seamless access to diverse namespaces. OpenNIC encourages participation from individuals with the right technical skills to run their own TLDs on the network, emphasizing community involvement.
Whether you are looking for a more open internet experience or interested in learning more about DNS technology, OpenNIC is an inclusive platform that welcomes new volunteers and users alike.
