About OpenRailwayMap
OpenRailwayMap is a worldwide interactive mapping project focused on railway infrastructure. It uses data from OpenStreetMap and OpenHistoricalMap to show present-day and historical railways, with details including track layouts, speed limits, train protection systems, electrification, voltage and frequency, and track gauges. The map also provides information about routes, operators, station platforms, signals, switches, level crossings, turntables, substations, catenaries, and other railway facilities and equipment.
Users can search by name, reference, or position, and adjust map layers, themes, labels, and the display of proposed, under-construction, or historical infrastructure. Background map settings include tile sources, saturation, opacity, and hill shading. OpenRailwayMap is also a collaborative mapping resource: visitors can discuss suggestions, report issues, contribute improvements through GitHub, or edit underlying map data using compatible tools such as iD and JOSM.
Documentation and usage guidance are available through the project’s wiki and usage policy. The service welcomes community feedback and contributions to improve railway information for locations around the world
