OpenStreetMap Indonesia, also known as the Perkumpulan OpenStreetmap Indonesia (POI), is a non-profit organization dedicated to mapping with the goal of empowering communities and promoting sustainable development through the use of the open and free mapping platform, OpenStreetMap. Their vision is to popularize the use of open geospatial data for sustainable development and human resource capacity building. To achieve this, they have set several missions, including promoting the use of open geospatial data, developing human capacity, and innovating data solutions.
The organization has a rich history and was founded in 2011 as the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) in Indonesia. Their initial focus was on raising awareness about the importance of spatial data for disaster risk reduction and building the local OpenStreetMap community. Over the years, they have worked tirelessly to engage people from all walks of life through training and mapping activities across the country.
In 2017, HOT Indonesia took a significant step forward by establishing the Perkumpulan OpenStreetMap Indonesia (POI) as a local entity. With the same passion and dedication, POI continues to advocate for the use of open and free geospatial data to address various societal needs. Their team consists of dedicated professionals, including the Head of Operations, Finance & Admin Manager, Project Manager, Communication & Community Engagement Officer, Project & Training Officer, Data Quality Lead, GIS Technical Specialist, and Open Innovation Specialist, among others.
