About Open Therapy Institute
Open Therapy Institute (OTI) is a nonprofit organization working to reduce political bias in mental health care and make therapy more open to people of all viewpoints. It supports patients seeking clinicians who understand them and helps therapists build a more trustworthy profession. OTIβs work combines research, professional development, public discussion, and patient care.
The institute publishes peer-reviewed scholarship through Open Inquiry in Mental Health, alongside public writing on clinical bias, training gaps, and treatment challenges. Its thought-leadership work includes The Open Therapy Podcast, media commentary, and a Psychology Today column. For mental health professionals, OTI offers workshops, webinars, peer groups, a conference, and clinician training and credentialing resources. Its referral system connects patients with vetted, bias-aware therapists in a growing national network.
OTI also convenes scholars and advisers to inform its work and hosts events exploring political bias and mental health. Its conference and on-demand continuing education workshops serve psychologists, counselors, social workers, physicians, and nurses.
