OpenWater Collective is a community-focused initiative dedicated to expanding access to America’s lakes, rivers and coastlines through rowing and paddlesports. Its goal is to create opportunities for young people, encourage lasting connections to the outdoors and strengthen local communities. The organization helps towns and cities activate underused waterways through its Boathouse in a Box program: an affordable, modular setup with a boathouse, boats, docks, equipment and training to help launch water sports programs. Three options are designed to suit different community needs, timelines and budgets.

OpenWater Collective also provides tools and support for communities to establish youth and adult sports leagues, organize racing festivals and other events, and develop conservation initiatives. Its work includes helping protect waterways, shorelines and surrounding lands. Inspired by the development of Oklahoma City’s Boathouse District, the organization aims to make similar community benefits possible across the country. Through partnerships with donors, suppliers, organizations and local leaders, OpenWater Collective is working to bring more people onto the water and create new recreational and community opportunities.
