Operation Education Nairobi

Operation Education Nairobi (OEN) is a Nebraska-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2019 to help children in Nairobi, Kenya, access and continue their education. Started by Nebraskan co-founders Katie Claus and Julie Graham, alongside local pastor Oliver Ochieng, the organization connects supporters in the United States with students and families served by its Kenyan team. OEN raises funds for full educational scholarships for children whose families cannot afford school costs.

Scholarships cover admission and national examination fees, books, uniforms, desks, school lunches, and other requirements for enrollment and continued attendance. The organization says donations go directly to scholarships, with no administrative expenses deducted, and estimates that about $500 funds a student’s three-term school year. Alongside financial assistance, students receive ongoing local support and personalized mentorship from positive role models.

This support is intended to ease family financial strain, improve students’ well-being and academic prospects, and provide stability and encouragement. OEN invites one-time and recurring donations to sustain scholarships and expand educational opportunities for children in Nairobi
