Oppidoo

Oppidoo provides individualized support for children and adults who find mathematics difficult in Espoo, Finland. Led by special education teacher and mathematics learning specialist Mari Laurenius, the service focuses on understanding how each learner thinks and identifying gaps in their mathematical foundations, rather than simply repeating difficult homework or rushing ahead with school topics. Sessions may revisit basic skills and use hands-on materials, games, movement, drawing, number lines, and problem-solving to make concepts clearer. Learners then connect this understanding to numbers, symbols, and school mathematics.

Support is available for early-years and school-age children, including those with diagnosed or suspected mathematics learning difficulties, and adults seeking to strengthen foundational skills for studies, entrance examinations, or work. A diagnosis is not required. Work begins with conversation, observation, and tailored activities, with progress and next steps usually clearer after about four sessions. Individual appointments typically last 60 minutes, cost €120, and are held primarily in person at Oppidoo’s teaching space in Kilo, Espoo; remote sessions may be arranged when suitable.
