CLAVIS is a French small cap brand that specializes in optical analysis and calculations in photonics. Founded in 2001 by Gilles Passedat, CLAVIS initially focused on developing a proprietary technology for manufacturing high-volume hermetic feedthroughs on fiber optics and micro optics at a much lower cost than established technologies. After the telecom bubble burst in 2004, CLAVIS shifted its focus to R&D consultancy for optical instrumentation.

Aside from his work at CLAVIS, Gilles Passedat also serves as an expert for the European Commission, evaluating and reviewing previous FP7 projects, HORIZON 2020 projects, and EIC accelerator initiatives. He also held a part-time senior lecturer position at the Mesures physiques department of the IUT in Marseille from 2006 to 2012.
