Optimist Club of Calgary

The Optimist Club of Calgary is a community-focused volunteer organization chartered with Optimist International in 1938. For more than 80 years, it has supported young people across the Calgary area, guided by a mission to bring out the best in youth, the community, and its members. The club raises funds and helps develop or provide programs spanning education, professional development, sports, and community activities.

Its youth initiatives include scholarships, bursaries, grants, essay and public-speaking contests, fine arts opportunities, and skills development. Sports offerings include junior curling, junior golf tournaments, and programs with Canadian Adaptive Snowsports. Community programming features local events, picnics, and family days, while professional development and personal growth are supported through the Optimist Institute and opportunities for involvement.

People can participate by joining the club, supporting it as a Friend of Optimist, volunteering, or donating. Local youth-serving groups and organizations may also apply for charitable donation grants. The club hosts meetings and fundraising events to connect members and sustain its work.
