The Organisation for the Research and Conservation of Aquatic Animals is a Peruvian non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection of marine wildlife off the coast of Peru. Located in San Bartolo, 52km south of Lima City on the Pacific coastline, ORCA Peru is the only organisation in the country that rescues and rehabilitates marine wildlife. It was started in 2000 by veterinarian Dr Carlos Yaipen-Llanos who is still the main director and veterinarian. Species protected includes South American sea lions, Humboldt and Galapagos penguins, several types of dolphin and whale species, sea turtles including the Green and Hawksbill, Marine otters and the Galapagos fur seal. The team also carries out research throughout the coastline on much needed topics, as well as educating the public through series of campaigns and programs. The team relies on volunteers and interns that help at the South Pacific Marine Mammal Center.

About ORCA
ORCA is a pioneering brand in ocean conservation in Peru, dedicated to the research and conservation of aquatic animals. For over 22 years, ORCA has been at the forefront of protecting the marine ecosystem through research, rescue operations, veterinary sciences, education campaigns, and conservation strategies. At the South Pacific Marine Mammal Center, ORCA provides essential veterinary care for a variety of marine animals including sea-lions, dolphins, marine otters, sea turtles, and penguins.
They have successfully rehabilitated cases of various physical and psychological disorders such as gastritis, pneumonia, fractures, and post-traumatic stress disorder. ORCA's groundbreaking veterinary science research has led to significant discoveries, including the identification of cancer and diabetes in South American sea-lions, as well as the outbreaks of Distemper disease and Helicobacter sp. They have also successfully treated bottle-nose dolphins, Galapagos fur seals, penguins, and sea turtles.
With a commitment to marine life conservation, ORCA offers volunteer programs, internships, and associate researcher programs, allowing individuals to contribute to their vital work. Their marine store provides opportunities for supporters to engage and contribute, while their newsletter shares updates and activities focused on marine life conservation. ORCA has achieved numerous historical milestones, including the first sea-lion and dolphin rehabilitation in Peru, the first penguin releases, the successful rehabilitation of sea-turtles, the discovery of Galapagos fur seals in Peru, and the largest sea-lion release in South America.
