ORFEUS, the Observatories and Research Facilities for European Seismology, is a non-profit foundation dedicated to advancing seismology in the Euro-Mediterranean region. Established in 1987 through a collaboration of seismologists, ORFEUS focuses on the collection, archival, and distribution of seismic waveform data, along with providing essential metadata and services. The organization aggregates contributions from over 60 institutions across Europe, standardizing and promoting seismic data for a diverse range of users, including Earth scientists and earthquake engineering professionals.

ORFEUS operates the European Integrated waveform Data Archive (EIDA) and the European Strong-Motion databases, ensuring open access to high-quality seismic data from approximately 18,000 stations. The foundation encourages best practices in seismic network operations and data management, fostering community participation and collaboration in seismological research. Additionally, ORFEUS integrates its services within the EPOS Data Portal and actively engages in European-funded projects, enhancing interoperability and multidisciplinary integration within Earth science workflows.
