About Oriente Antiguo
Oriente Antiguo is an intellectual and educational project created by Víctor Toledo, who has dedicated his life to studying the human past. Since 2019, it has used digital platforms to contextualize history and encourage informed dialogue about the past and its influence on present-day beliefs and debates. Its focus is the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean and Western Asia, explored through history, archaeology, ancient sources, and related fields. The project shares research and material gathered in the field through photographs, videos, written articles, a blog, and a YouTube channel, and also offers a book and a project manifesto.
Topics include the histories of Jews and Palestinians, the Bible in its historical context, the Islamic Middle East, prehistory, antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the history of religion. Oriente Antiguo emphasizes academic rigor, critical thinking, evidence, empathy, and respectful debate. It also examines how historical narratives may be shaped or used by ideology, while seeking to broaden perspectives and challenge prejudice.
