Orkídea is a joint venture aimed at fostering innovation and investment in South Iceland's food production and biotechnology sectors. Founded by Landsvirkjun Power Company, the Association of South Iceland municipalities, the Agricultural University of Iceland, and the Ministry of Environment, Energy, and Climate, Orkídea focuses on creating value through the sustainable use of renewable resources. With a strong emphasis on cross-sector collaboration, Orkídea aims to tackle real-world challenges and drive solutions.

South Iceland, with its abundant green energy resources, covers a vast area and is known for tourism, food production, and services. At Orkídea, we strive to promote energy utilization and sustainability in these sectors. Our team, led by the Managing Director Sveinn Aðalsteinsson, the Research and Development Manager Helga Gunnlaugsdóttir, and the Project Manager Magnús Yngvi Jósefsson, brings together expertise in plant physiology, business administration, food technology, and project management.

Orkídea collaborates with various stakeholders, including small companies, entrepreneurs, municipalities, universities, research organizations, and governmental bodies, both nationally and internationally. We actively contribute to EU projects, supporting resource-efficiency, circular economy, and knowledge sharing among actors in agriculture and fisheries.
