OATA Ltd, also known as the Ornamental Aquatic Trade Association, was established in 1991 with the goal of protecting and promoting the interests of those involved in the ornamental aquatic trade. They represent the entire industry, including importers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and pond and aquarium consultants. Their main objectives are to enhance the industry's reputation, set high standards, provide education and training, and advocate for their members to elected representatives and officials.

They also collaborate with other trade bodies and relevant organizations to strengthen the voice of the pet industry. With over 800 UK members, OATA has saved the industry more than £200 million since its inception. The organization promotes responsible ownership and emphasizes the benefits that pet fish can bring to society.
