The site welcomes everyone from beginning and experienced hobbyists to large-scale breeders and zoological gardens, and encourages readers to take part in its community. Visitors can explore articles about birds and breeding, discuss topics with other enthusiasts, and contribute their own knowledge by writing about their breeding experience.

Ornitas aims to provide a place where people with different interests and levels of expertise can find useful information, share practical experience and help develop a collaborative reference resource. Its subject matter ranges across the many birds kept today, including parrots, domestic fowl and other species, with attention to how breeding practices, care and feeding continue to evolve. By inviting contributions from its readers, Ornitas supports the exchange of knowledge that can help people breed and care for birds more effectively and preserve that expertise for future generations
