Oroitza histoire de Hendaye

Oroitza is an association devoted to preserving and sharing the history and heritage of Hendaye and the surrounding Basque region. Its website brings together historical resources, local news, event information, and opportunities to take part in the association’s activities. Visitors can explore Hendaye’s past through chronological and thematic features, geographical guides, articles, photographs, postcards, books, press coverage, and videos. Topics range from local streets, buildings, and traditional occupations to regional events, migration, and notable historical figures.

Oroitza also organizes monthly meetings, conferences, exhibitions, cultural walks, and heritage events, often in collaboration with local venues such as the Médiathèque and the Halles de Gaztelu. Past programs have covered subjects including genealogy, Basque traditions, local architecture, maritime history, and the history of Hendaye’s old trades. The association holds general assemblies and offers an opportunity for people to join and support its work. Through research, public events, and accessible historical materials, Oroitza encourages residents and visitors to discover and pass on the stories that have shaped Hendaye.
