The Orpington Astronomical Society, established in 1980, is a vibrant community dedicated to promoting interest in astronomy and space science in Bromley and surrounding areas. Operating as an educational charity, the Society connects with national organizations like the Federation of Astronomical Societies and the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. Led by a committee of enthusiastic volunteers, it offers an array of engaging activities, including monthly meetings featuring presentations on space exploration and astrophysics. Members can participate in informal "Observing Evenings" where they share their equipment experiences and insights.

The Society also organizes special events, Deep Sky Camps for optimal stargazing, and has an active outreach program that brings astronomy education to schools and community groups. Members benefit from a quarterly newsletter, access to shared equipment, and a dedicated forum for discussions and advice. With its focus on fostering a welcoming environment for all ages, the Orpington Astronomical Society continues to inspire a love for the universe.
