The Dr. and Mrs. Barney Osborne Memorial Scholarship is a family-founded scholarship program established in 1998 to support students in Ironton, Ohio. It honors Dr. Barney Osborne, a family physician and surgeon who served Ironton and nearby communities for more than 30 years, and his wife, Virginia, who worked with him during the final years of his practice. The Osborne family created the fund to help advance local students’ education.
The program provides one-time awards to outstanding graduating seniors from Ironton High School and St. Joseph High School. Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Each school’s scholarship is currently $5,000, with the amount scheduled to increase to $7,500 in 2027. Awards are presented at the schools’ annual commencement ceremonies. The first scholarship was awarded at Ironton High School in 1999, and the first at St. Joseph High School in 2025. The fund welcomes tax-deductible donations to sustain its annual awards and support deserving graduates.
