OSG Consortium

OSG Consortium is a national, distributed computing partnership that specializes in data-intensive research. Established in 2005, the Consortium operates a fabric of distributed High Throughput Computing (dHTC) services to support the National Science & Engineering community. The members of the consortium include research collaborations, campuses, national laboratories, and software providers who are all committed to advancing open science through their services.

One of their main services is the Open Science Pool (OSPool), which provides fair-share access to processing and storage capacity contributed by university campuses, government-supported supercomputing institutions, and research collaborations. Researchers performing Open Science in the US can utilize the OSPool without the need for an allocation. In addition, the OSG Consortium offers the Open Science Data Federation (OSDF), which enables users and institutions to share data files and storage capacity in dHTC environments like the OSPool.

This improves file access performance, resource consumption, and reliability. The OSG Consortium also organizes events like the annual OSG All-Hands Meeting, where staff, campuses, and researchers come together to discuss the state of the OSG, services offered, and science enabled by the OSPool.
