OSTARA

OSTARA is a public-benefit organization providing community-based residential social services for adults with intellectual and combined disabilities in the Novoborsko region of the Czech Republic. Formerly known as the Mařenice Home for People with Disabilities, the organization was transformed and relocated from Mařenice to four purpose-built, community-style homes in Cvikov and Nový Bor.

OSTARA supports women and men aged 19 and over who face challenging social circumstances and need regular assistance from another person. Its services are designed to help residents live ordinary lives in a natural community setting, use public services, and participate as valued citizens in their towns. A central principle is empowerment: supporting people to make choices, develop skills, take responsibility, and become more independent and active. Staff aim to provide information clearly, encourage participation, and allow appropriate opportunities for learning and manageable risk rather than simply doing tasks for residents.

Through its residential homes and Cvikov centre, OSTARA works to create supportive environments where people can build competence and contribute to everyday community life.
