About Oudh 1722
Oudh 1722 is an Indian restaurant in Borough, London, presenting the culinary traditions of Awadh through the vision of chef Aktar Islam. Set in a Grade II-listed Victorian building, the restaurant draws inspiration from the royal kitchens of 18th-century Lucknow, where dining developed into an expression of hospitality, refinement and ceremony. Its cuisine reflects Persian, Mughal and Central Asian influences, with an emphasis on patience and careful preparation.
The menu features Awadhi specialties including melt-in-the-mouth kebabs, saffron-scented biryanis and gently slow-cooked curries. Islam, who began cooking in his family’s restaurant at 13, brings experience from Opheem, his Birmingham restaurant, where he earned two Michelin stars. At Oudh 1722, he approaches Awadhi cooking with respect for its history and a focus on sharing this distinctive regional cuisine with contemporary diners.
Guests can visit for lunch or dinner on selected days and make reservations through the restaurant. Located at 66 Union Street, Oudh 1722 offers a setting where the flavours and traditions of Lucknow meet the character of Borough
