Stichting Oud Ried is a heritage foundation dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Ried, a village in Friesland, the Netherlands. Its origins date to 1998, when local residents began collecting and documenting material about the village; it became a foundation in 2013. The organization maintains an archive in the village community centre, including newspaper clippings, association minute books and approximately 7,000 digital photographs of Ried and its past and present residents.
Through its website, Facebook page and YouTube channel, Stichting Oud Ried makes part of this collection accessible and publishes monthly historical stories, also shared in the village newspaper It Kattebeltsje. Its work includes photo collections, research, exhibitions and presentations that bring local events and everyday life to wider attention. The foundation has organized exhibitions and collaborated with local groups on a theatre lecture about a Second World War event in the area. It also publishes books and booklets on Ried’s history, including accounts of wartime experiences, farming, village life and stories previously featured in the local newspaper.
