About The OUR Jamaica
The OUR Jamaica is the Office of Utilities Regulation, an independent regulatory body established by the Jamaican government in 1995. It operates as a board of directors, making decisions on regulatory and administrative matters. Comprising six members appointed by the Governor General, the OUR plays a vital role in regulating utility companies and ensuring consumers' rights are protected.
Contrary to popular belief, the OUR is not a consumer advocacy group, but rather an objective and impartial regulator. It provides an Avenue of Appeal for consumers who have grievances with utility companies. The OUR is ISO 9001:2015 certified and has been internationally recognized for its pioneering role in independent utility regulation and the liberalization of the telecommunications sector.
The OUR's services extend to the regulation of electricity, telecommunications, and water/sewerage sectors. It maintains overall standards, ensures guaranteed standards are met, and offers information on the appeals process and consumer charter. By promoting fair practices and quality services, the OUR strives to benefit all Jamaican utility customers
