OUR FISTS ARE BLACK

Our Fists Are Black is a documentary project presented through a sizzle deck and a gallery of story chapters. Produced by A Chocolate Bunny Production, it explores Black history and experiences within sport karate, tracing the people, places, conflicts, and cultural shifts that shaped the community. Its subjects include high schools and parks, the federation’s founders, championship competition, and dojos such as the 103rd Street, Sheenway, and Crenshaw locations.

The project also examines prejudice, athlete activism, the effects of neighborhood and political tensions, and the distinction between rebellion and riot. Other chapters consider the evolution of sport karate and kickboxing, the influence of Bruce Lee, Hollywood’s interest, and the achievement of the first Black international grand champion. Through its chapter-based presentation, Our Fists Are Black brings together many voices and stories, connecting the sport’s roots with its lasting presence and future.

The website offers visitors a gallery of featured topics, each available to view, forming an introduction to the documentary’s broad account of karate, community, and Black achievement
